If you've ever had a consultation at a cosmetic dental office, you know that it can be incredibly exciting due to the anticipation of getting your new smile. However, sometimes a few of the questions that you planned to ask slip your mind, so we are always sure to share the answers to the following questions with all of our cosmetic dentistry patients:
1. Where can I see before-and-after photos of your cosmetic dentistry work?
You wouldn't hire someone to remodel your home without checking out photos of his or her work beforehand, right? Cosmetic dentistry expertise can vary greatly from doctor to doctor, and you want to know what to expect before the work ever begins. Finding before-and-after photos of your cosmetic dentist's work should be a simple task — if they don't have any photos they're proud to show off, that might be a red flag!
Dr. Carlson's prior cosmetic dentistry cases are prominently displayed on our website (see before-and-after photos here), and professional studio portraits line the walls of our office. We hear time and time again that the photos on our website are the reason that many patients contact our office for their initial consultation! But don't just take it from us — you can also read our testimonials and Google reviews to hear directly from our patients.
2. Where are my porcelain veneers actually made?
Porcelain veneers are always created in a lab, but many dentists send the impressions and models of your teeth to an off-site lab to be created. This creates a few chances for problems – one, the lab technician only has the model to refer to, and has never met the patient to find out very specific wishes about their new smile. Two, if the patient isn't completely satisfied with the way the veneers are made, they must be sent back to the lab to be modified or even remade. Labs just can't offer the same personal service as the doctor that has gotten to know you during a one-on-one consultation.
At 5 Star Dental, Dr. Carlson has his own dentistry lab in our office, just steps away from our treatment rooms. This allows Dr. Carlson to apply his own personal expertise to each and every cosmetic dentistry case.
3. Will I have any say in customizing my porcelain veneers?
There are many decisions to be made when it comes to cosmetic dentistry – what shape, color, length do you prefer? What if you think you want celebrity-esque bright white, but end up preferring a more natural white? The only way to ensure that the end result is exactly what YOU want is to work with a cosmetic dentist that can implement your wishes in a completely custom way. Again, make sure that you're working with a dentist who not only listens to your wants, but is also able to implement them perfectly.
If you prefer to leave the customization up to an expert, Dr. Carlson can make suggestions based on his consultation with you. You can read more about our custom cosmetic dentistry process here.
